Veterinary Ultrasound

Veterinary Ultrasounds in Dubuque, IA

An ultrasound is a valuable diagnostic tool commonly used at Colonial Terrace Animal Hospital. It transmits sound waves through tissues to create an image on a monitor. A pet ultrasound is a way of imaging structures in the abdomen in three dimensions, which can allow us to better detect things like bladder stones, abnormal organ structure, tumors in the abdomen, and inflammation in organs such as the intestine, pancreas, and gallbladder.  It can also be used to guide needles in obtaining tissue biopsies and urine samples.  It is often used in combination with x-rays to get a better picture of the internal organs. We routinely use ultrasound to obtain urine samples, and this allows us the ability to scan the bladder for stones and growths that can cause urinary-related symptoms for so many of our pets.  Ultrasound is a non-invasive way of helping to diagnose many common diseases in small animals, including cancer, pancreatitis, and intestinal disease.
